FILM MUSIC COMPOSER

JOHAN TESTAD

“Being one of my most important collaborators Johan is a master at creating simple melodies out of the intricate and sophisticated.”

– Peter Grönlund

I’m a composer and musician born in Solna, Stockholm but I live in Tibble, a rural village in Dalarna.  I grew up surrounded by art and many different styles of music which have influenced the way I compose.

The  contrast between the beauty of northern nature and the brutalism of old industrial surroundings is something which fascinates me and which I believe pervades a lot of my scores.  In 2019 I received the Guldbagge (Sweden’s leading film awards) for the score to Goliat and I have also been nominated for the same score to the Harpa Awards in Berlin.

My score for the TV-series Björnstad (Beartown) has also been nominated to the Harpa Awards in Berlin 2022.

“Johan Testad’s score has always played a central part in my work. The atmosphere of his compositions is often basically melancholy, but also – if he decides to go there – comprices a pulse and a nervous energy, with electronic and industrial influences. Emotional and melodic elements feauture in the synthetic and mechanical soundscape, pervading the sound design and enchancing the vulnerability in it’s existential themes. Being one of my most important collaborators Johan is a master at creating simple melodies out of the intricate and sophisticated. Maybe that is his greatest gift.”
